Frequently asked questions
In keeping with the term viniyoga, yoga practices are designed to meet your needs. Therefore, unless you have a major problem which might be better suited to individual work, varying levels of fitness will be catered for and managed. If anything unexpectedly hurts or feels uncomfortable during the practice, or a certain posture/position doesn't feel right for you, it can be adapted, modified or changed for something more suitable there and then.
The 'level' of yoga experience in the classes is varied, but because the classes are small, theoretical or philosophical - as well as practical aspects of yoga - can be tailored to benefit all. Although you may have no 'yoga knowledge' as such, daily life will have supplied you with a wealth of relevant experience.
It's a while since I've done it
Then welcome back! Some things may feel different and some things may feel familiar. Important to remember when returning is that 'viniyoga' is about being aware of and working within your limits, which may be different from before.
Individual sessions? And doing it at home
Individual sessions allow time and space to explore specific needs and interests through yoga. At an individual session an appropriate practice is put together to be taken at home, ideally every day or at least 3 or 4 times a week if you want any results. Initial sessions take between 1 and 1.5 hours. Subsequent sessions take around an hour,.
If you are new to yoga I would recommend a session every 1-2 weeks to begin with and when you are established every 4-6 weeks.

No it is not. There is no worship or devotion to a god like symbol, no standardised rituals and no specific, sacred space or time in which to practice. Essentially yoga is about oneself and improving the quality of one's life, by becoming reasonably ( physically and mentally ) fit, contented, calm, focussed and present through appropriate yoga practice. Although it is not religious there is a spiritual dimension to yoga, but in keeping with the term 'viniyoga' this only need be taken on board when one is ready.
Will it help me to lose weight ?
Yoga isn't about being supersonically fit, slim and trim! Yoga practice tones muscles, increases strength and flexibility (if necessary), massages internal organs and clears the mind. With regard to weight loss, yoga is more likely to have an influence on what foods you choose to eat, what drinks you choose to drink and how much of either. In this way yoga works to improve the quality of life and if weight loss is essential to that yoga will have a bearing on it.
